Almost everything we do is in collaboration with community partners, working together to help all youth thrive.
Here are some of the ways we engage with educational partners:
We promote high-quality regional hands-on learning and tinkering events hosted by the STEAM/Maker Alliance for Northwest Michigan and its individual members. Together we plan and host annual STEM events such as TADL MakerFest.
In addition to the STEAM/Maker Alliance, TADL is our partner in making STEM Kits available for free checkout at all 20 libraries in our 5-county region. We are half way to our goal!
Newton's Road is working closely with the GTAMC to develop the Manufacturing career family on the Career Investigator. We also support them in the planning and promotion of the annual MFG Day. In the past we nurtured deeper understanding and connection between Career Tech Center machining students and the council. GTAMC also serves on our Board.
Several NMC departments have been deeply engaged in adding careers and pathways to achieve them in our Career Investigator. These instructors were also guests on several STEM Careers with Newton's Road episodes. We've also partnered on Career Exploring Club in the past.
As part of the regional MTU Task Force, MTU students led our Career Exploring session Electrical Engineering where youth made heart monitors to take home. We also arranged for the MTU Mind Trekkers to partner with the TC Central robotics team, who gives back to our community each year by putting on Super Science Saturday. They also serve on our Board.
TCAPS hosts several events annually which all regional students are invited to participate. Most recently we supported the It's StoryTime: LIVE from the Opera House series with STEM activities related to each story. We also participated in career panels, hosted special events such as Three American Astronauts, and sponsored Super Science Saturday. They are also represented on our Board.
As part of our Board, the TBAISD gives guidance on current needs and challenges and how Newton's Road might best support them. We have partnered with many Career Tech Center STEM-related programs. Through the MiSTEM Network, we've paid for subs so teachers can attend STEM professional development and cohosted the annual Gutter Car Derby event.
Providing mentors with resources to support their student mentees in learning STEM and exploring STEM-related careers.
Newton's Road supports the planning of the annual MiCareerQuest event each spring and helps grow awareness of apprenticeship opportunities for many careers.
Newton's Road has recently made this dynamic tech entrepreneurial hub our home base away from home. We promote students and teachers participating in appropriate coding and cybersecurity offerings from tccodes and tccyber.
