Local Resources

These Newton's Road resources can be very useful when working with your students and communicating with parents about the  importance of STEM at home, after school and in the classroom.

  • Why do STEM at Home?: Starting from Why, this entire menu for Parents and Students can be a One Stop Shop for explaining to parents about the importance of STEM education in and out of school and quality ways for them to engage their kids.

  • STEM Finder: Some of the search criteria in this regional and online database are included with teachers and youth mentors and leaders in mind. For example, try selecting Learning Environments>School or the Youth Leader/Educator options.  Adding grade level or other criteria can help narrow results closer to your need.

  • Career Investigator for Northwest Michigan: We worked with students, parents, school counselors and business professionals to design our Career Investigator tool. Introduce this tool to your MS and HS students to encourage them to explore regional careers and the pathways to achieve them. Post-secondary educators and businesses are using this tool when meeting with potential students and employees. Counselors are finding it to be an engaging student experience.

  • Calendar: Make sure to subscribe to our calendar to keep up with Newton's Road programming and events put in by the STEAM/Maker Alliance.

  • STEM Kits: Many schools work closely with their local library, and are suggesting students check out a STEM Kit related to science, math or STEM lessons they are doing in school. We are working with other STEM leaders to explore best practices around STEM Kits onsite at schools locally--More on this soon!

Professional Development: We respond to regional professional development needs related to STEM. For example, we've paid for substitutes so teachers taking the Engineering is Elementary training through the TBAISD could attend.
